Some thoughts on faith from my scripture study today.

Faith = trust in things we cannot quantify immediatly or in other words, things not seen.

Faith is a proactive principle( 2 Nephi 2:14, Alma 32:28 ) it is impossible to have faith without being proactive and searching for it. This is why Ether said that you will recieve no witness until AFTER the trial of your faith(Ether 12:27).

Characteristics of those who seek faith:

Obedient - 2 Nephi 28:30
Humble - Alma 32:12
Lowly in heart - Alma 32:13
Repentant - Alma 32:13

Alma explains that in order to recieve faith we must start with a desire to believe in something. We have to get over the fear of action and experiment on the word. As this faith increaseas Heavenly Father will give us assignments that will increase our faith until we come to a perfect knowledge as Nephi and the brother of Jared did.

When Nephi was asked to get the plates from Laban, his faith(trust) was so strong that he put his life on the line because he knew God would prepare the way. He explains in 1st Nephi 4:6-7 that he “was led by the spirit not knowing beforehand the things I should do…nevertheless I went forth.”

Therefore in order for us to increase our faith we must be proactive and continue to experiment on the His promises. We must continue to ask for and act on personal revelation. We must continue to study the scriptures to find the “promises made to the fathers(D&C 2:2)”
