We were waiting to announce this to everybody until everything was settled but the paperwork is going to take a couple of months so I will announce it now…
I have been accepted into a doctorate program in Madrid, Spain, and my family and I will be moving to Spain in May or June.
My studies will focus on the use of artificial intelligence algorithms to determine genetic and non-genetic relationships between languages. My goal is to determine people migrations through the language record. I will be mostly focused on early Mesoamerican and Mesopotamian languages. If Guatemala can get its act together I have the possibility of doing a double title in Artificial intelligence and also a second doctorate in Mesoamerican studies but that since the university here is in protest I’m not sure if that will come to fruition or not, but it is a possibility.
We will be leaving Guatemala in December to move back to Utah for six months to spend time with family while all the paperwork is getting taken care of. I’m looking forward to this next chapter of our lives. We have loved our time in Guatemala and the people we have met but our time has come to an end as far as living arrangements are concerned. However, since my studies are likely to bring me back here for the rest of my life it’s likely we will build a house here in the near future.
Does this mean we have to become Real Madrid fans?
